Karana

Karana                                                    Scott O'Dell

Thank you for being a part of the 50th Anniversary of Scott O'Dell's ...   Karana's date of birth and death was not recorded but we know that she was stuck on the island from 1835 to 1853. She was known as "The Lost Woman of San Nicolas". Indians first settled on the Island of the Blue Dolphins in about 2000 B.C, but was not found by white men until 1602. not much is known about Karana but this story changed her name. Her real name is Robinson Crusoe. Robinson was buried on a hill near Santa Barbara Mission. When Robinson was alone on the island, she had to make her own weapons such as spears and bows. She also had to gather food such as abalones, fish, and spring water. She had lots of pets to company her. She had a dog who was once wild and two birds. Her family members were not known. I loved this book because it was a survival story and right now it is my favorite book. Island of the Blue Dolphins has 181 pages.
